The Full Story
In 2008 we chose to move from the center of Israel to the Negev desert.
With very little knowledge but with great faith, we started an agricultural farm on the Egyptian border in the middle of the Negev desert .
We always dreamed about the power of "Hebrew work" but it was very hard to recruit young Israelis to come & work in the middle of nowhere...so in reality we worked mainly with Thai workers
.
After 7/10, things started to change. Israelis were reminded of the importance of Israeli agriculture, maintaining food security and settling along the country's borders.
After several months of intensive work, we are happy to open a "shnat sherut ", where high school graduates will come to learn , to work and to breathe agriculture and Zionism for 11 months before they enlist to the IDF.
The project also keep including volunteers from abroad and the idea is to create a space for dialogue and connection between Jews from all over the world, non jews -that believes in this country , and the young Israelis that come to be part of the project.
Our goal is to be a place where the future generation of Israeli agriculture is born ,within the country's borders . and to be a safe land for young people who dream of making "aliya" to Israel to come and get a reel feel of this part of the country.
At this point, the project is approved as a "Garin nahal" by the "Hashomer Achadash" organization and the IDF but it is not funded by any official body.
We are happy to host groups for a tour at the farm to see and learn about new methods of desert agriculture, about food security in Israel and how it all relates to the border security.
The proceeds from these tours will help us cover part of the high costs of the "shnat sherut" project.
